Greenshipping

Seminar on Advanced technological solutions for the shipping industry

Thursday March 17 the Swedish Trade Council together with the Embassy hosted a seminar on Advanced technological solutions for the shipping industry. During the seminar the participants, actors in the Shipping industry in Greece, had the possibility to be introduced to the latest technologies from leading Swedish companies such as SKF, Alfa Laval and Atlas Copco.

The Ambassador Hakan Malmqvist opened the seminar by mentioning a number of activities the Embassy has been involved in during the past years in order to strengthen the Greek-Swedish business relations and specifically in the area of the Shipping Industry where Swedish companies could offer advanced technological solutions to a demanding and successful market.

Elza Kazemi, Commercial Counsellor, addressed the audience underlining the role of the Swedish Trade Council in Greece and the region of Balkan as well as the great potential of expanding the already existing business relations.

Mr Patric Westdahl, Manager of the Swedish Marine Technology Forum presented the role of his institution, new projects that are up and running such as the Clean North Sea Project and stressed their partners active choice to “be part of the solution instead of being part of the problem”.

SKF representatives, Mr. Gerald Rolfe and Mr. Roger Axelsson, presented the history of a truly global company and solutions for critical equipment that brings value to the Marine End User and pointed also out the fact that their technical solutions are approved by the classification societies.

Alfa Laval has the leading ballast water treatment system and the company representative Mr. Dimitris Poulos, described to the audience the different improvements, the compliance to regulations and recognition of the market.

Atlas Copco, another historical business actor active in 170 markets established already more than 130 years ago was represented by the CTS Business Manager Mr Thanassis Markakis who informed the attendants of the company’s marine air system with the smallest footprint in the market.

Apart from the abovementioned Swedish companies, DNV, one of the leading classification companies in the world, participated as well.

The participants later had the opportunity to meet with the company representatives for extended discussions during a very successful “Match Making”.

The conference took place at Divani Apollon Palace, in Kavouri and attracted over 100 people.
